The Anemometer Variation of “Condition 4”
RWE Npower have lodged an appeal
RWE Npower are not happy with the decision to refuse permission to revise “Condition 4” (see below for details) and have gone to appeal. A date has not been set for the hearing but you can register you objections on the Planning Inspectorate’s web page LINK (opens in a new window) before 15 February 2012. See our guidance page LINK

The Anemometer Variation of “Condition 4”
This Has Been Refused by ELDC
In their original application, RWE recognised the large and diverse bird life in the area and promised to fit bird deflectors to all of the supporting guy wires. After their appeal, the planning inspector gave them permission to erect the anemometer subject to conditions, one of which (Condition 4) stipulated that::
“The bird deflectors detailed in the supporting information submitted with the application shall be provided to the guy wires concurrently with the erection of the mast and shall be in place at all times the mast is on site"
RWE Npower then applied to remove the requirement to have bird deflectors fitted to all of the guy wires and only fit them to the outer wires. They wanted the new Condition 4 to read::
“Bird diverters detailed in the June 2011 supporting information with this application shall be provided to the outer guy wires and shall be in place at all times the mast is on site".
We are pleased to say that this was rejected by the planning committee for the following reason:
“The failure to erect bird deflectors as detailed in planning application reference S/195/01023/10 to the guy wires associated with the anemometer mast would be harmful to birds and wildlife and therefore contrary to the Policy 40 of the East Midlands Regional Plan 2009 and the requirements of Planning Policy Statement 9: Biodiversity and Geological Conservation.”
Enforcement should now follow.
The Wainfleet Wind Turbine Action Group would like to thank everyone who took the time to register an objection. The council received 185 letters against the proposal. This was a good response and certainly helped our case.

Wind Turbines Planning Put On Hold
ELDC have suspended the application for the wind turbines as per the letter issued by ELDC on the 16/08/2011 on the following grounds:
Number of vehicle movements
Mitigation measures to ensure access routes are acceptable
Full traffic plan required
Ecology plus survey work required.
Survey work required to protect Marsh Harriers
Improved bird surveys
Great Crested Newt surveys
Justification for up grading existing track adjacent to Bethlem Drain, destroying a mature hedgerow.
Impact on the Historic Environment
Radio system issues
MOD Radar issues
The Planning Officer has confirmed that no response has been forthcoming from RWE Renewables, since the suspension letter was sent to them.
This fight could go on for a long time and there will be times when it goes quiet and nothing appears to be happening. We will need your continued support until a result is reached.
More Turbines At Croft
REG Windpower are planning to erect six wind turbines near Croft next to the A52. At this time they have not submitted a planning application to ELDC but are going to hold public exhibitions at Croft Village Hall on Friday 21 October and Coronation Hall Wainfleet on Sat 22 October. If passed these will be clearly visible close to the two existing turbines at Croft. Melvin Grosvenor is also working with the Croft Windfarm Action Group CWAG which has been formed. The Anemometer Variation of “Condition 4”
Application
RWE have fitted bird deflectors to the outside guy wires only on their 80m temporary anemometer . These deflectors are not the type specified in their original application. They have now to applied to change condition 4 to read:
“Bird diverters detailed in the June 2011 supporting information with
this application shall be provided to the outer guy wires and shall be
in place at all times the mast is on site".

The planning application for the four turbines has been verified. Now is the time to write in and object. You have until the 23rd of June to get your views registered with the council. We have delivered information packs to local residents. If you have not received one please contact us at our email address info@wwtag.co.uk
We flew the Blimp on Saturday June 11 but the weather got the better of us and we had to pull it down early. There was no improvement in the weather on the Sunday and unfortunatly we decidec not to fly the blimp. All a bit disappointing but thats life.
The stall at Friskney show was a great success. We had a lot of visitors and most of them signed letters of objection after we had shown them the information boards. Thanks to all that helped.
June 12 2011 Friskney Show
We will have a stall at Friskney Village Show. Come and meet us.
June 11 & 12 2011 BLIMP Weekend
As it is difficult to visualise just how high 127m is, weather permitting we are hoping to fly a blimp on the 11th and 12th of June. It will be flown at the same height as the turbines. This will highlight the detrimental effect the proposed industrial development will have on the fen land character of the area.
May/June 2011
Recently RWE Npower won their appeal and erected an 80m high anemometer on the proposed wind turbine site. They failed to comply with condition 4 of the planning permission.
“The bird deflectors detailed in the supporting information submitted with
the application shall be provided to the guy wires concurrently with the
erection of the mast and shall be in place at all times the mast is on site”
These bird deflectors were not fitted. The council was informed and RWE sent some men to the site. They lowered the anemometer and fitted bird deflectors to the outer guy wires only!! Still not complying with condition 4.
Once again the council have been informed of their failure to comply. Watch this space.
